I didn't mention it when it happened since it wasn't too much of a big deal and I wanted to wait to see what all the outcome was going to be.

Last Tues. I got rear-ended by a tractor trailer on the way home from work that morning. Thank god that the turnout wasn't bad and no one got hurt though I really wanted to strangle the bitch that caused it to happen. Though of course, after I got hit then she drives on as if nothing happened. Let's just say that we came to a quick complete stop and even though the truck had space between he and I, he still wasn't able to stop in time.

This is the first time I was ever in an accident that I was the actual driver. I've been in accidents before but only as a passenger. Man, talk about scaring the shit out of a person. My cheeks were flushed half the day. I called up bubba after it happened, scared out of my wits, and go "You're not going to like what I have to say." He didn't care as long as I wasn't hurt and I didn't cause the accident. So he took off work that day and was going to meet up with me where it happened while me and the dude were exchanging info. Good thing was that even though the back end was pushed in, it wasn't rubbing on the tires so the car was still drivable to at least the body shop. Once bubba met up with me, we stopped at his friend's body shop to drop the car off at, get to work right away on the insurance bullshit on the phone, and then go get a rental car.

Course the few ppl I talked to about the accident were like "did you go to the dr.'s, get checked out, etc." and I was like no. I wasn't hurt and sure, symptoms may not show up till a few days after but it was no big deal for me to go. Plus that was one less paperwork I didn't want to mess with. When I woke up that same night to get ready for work, let me just say that whiplash is a mother fucker! WORSE than if you were head banging all day. What also didn't help was that a week or two before the accident, my right shoulder was bothering me something awful. SO [livejournal.com profile] guardianhunter was able to work that area of the muscle a good bit to where it wasn't hurting as much. Two fucking days later was when the accident happened and it jolted that shoulder again. The fucked up thing was that the majority of my body that got bumped around and what not was my right side, not so much on my left. And the problem with my shoulder is nothing that a doctor can do anything about, its all muscle tightness, and deep at that. I just hope that it will eventually work it self out cause it bugs the shit out of me.

This past Mon was when both insurance companies were going to do the estimate on the damage to the car and we'd find out what they decide on. Bubba's friend who owns the body shop said that from the sound of things, that they may total it. I was actually shocked to hear that, sure when you first look at it, it doesn't look too bad but I guess all the internal damage & rear frame would've cost more to fix than what the car was actually worth. So by Tues, we got the answer and they did decide to total it. I also forgot to mention that I was hit that hard, that it broke my seat. The back part of my seat was busted and I think the bottom shifted a bit. We didn't mind them totaling the car since what we owed on the car was going to be paid off, it gave us that chance to get a new one. (not like we really had a choice either) We spent ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL fucking day on Wed. at the bank and half at the dealership. It wasn't so much of being approved for the loan, we were good to go on that, but shit, just trying to get someone on the other end to get the paperwork we needed completed took till the close of business. Bubba and I started to get so restless when we were waiting for all the paperwork at the bank that we were fucking with the chick who was helping us out. Pretty much playing 20 questions with bubba winning more than I. Nice girl, especially if she had to put up with us and she was a yr younger than me so she was pretty down to earth. *laughs*

The thing that helped us out on the car shopping Wed morning was that after we had to re-new the rental and was about to leave the parking lot, bubba got a call from our insurance ppl saying that they would help us on finding a car we want. We have Progressive and it was just freaky that they happened to call right when we were going to look around.

Now we could've gotten anything we wanted in the model we were looking to buy BUT since bubba was steadfast on getting the car the same color as the one that was wrecked, it narrowed our chances on finding what we needed. So with our insurance helping, they must've already had a dealership on their list that they work with in the Chevy dept. The Chevy guy did some searching and found the car we wanted but it was like 60miles away. And if we wanted it, they would work on getting it to the dealership the next day. Around lunchtime we went to said dealership in Richardson so we could check out the models and test drive one if they had a stick shift and they did.

The car I had was a '03 Cavalier and since Chevy don't make them anymore, we went with a Cobalt (the car that replaced the Cav). I got my car brand new in '02 and for as long as we had it, it was a pretty good car, never had any problems with the engine, etc unlike the shit we had to mess with on the previous Cav we had in '00.

The Cobalt is like a Cav but I think a tad smaller in the body. And of course we're stick shift ppl so we always have to have a stick. *nodsnods* I can't stand driving an automatic. The one I test drove it was so weird in regards to the clutch. Kinda hard to describe how it felt but just deal with my choice of words. While pushing in the clutch, it felt softer, squishier compared to the stiffness of the clutch in the old car. I guess in other words, its more smoother and then I get paranoid on driving something new when you have a stranger sitting in the car with you; aka. the dealer and trying to handle a new stick, I was afraid I was going to stall or jerk the car around. I'm slowly but surely getting the hang of it.

Hey [livejournal.com profile] soraaoi, the area the car dealer had me drive through was where we went with you and your friends to buy that hookah. *laughs*

When it comes to vehicles, we get the no frill package. All standard stuff, windows, locks, etc., no electrical bull. Its a cute car and I sit so much higher in my seat AND the best part of it, is that I don't have to pull the seat so far to where I'm nearly hugging the steering wheel with my legs. For those that don't know, I got short legs and have to pull any seat in a car if I'm driving to nearly the closest setting in order to reach. *lol* Sad ain't it? But with the Cobalt, I only have to move it a tiny bit and STILL have room for my legs to stretch, not hugging the wheel, AND reach the peddles!!

The only thing that sucks is that it doesn't have room for your stuff like a middle console and the space that would be below where the radio and that is. I had more room in the Cav when it came to that.

I noticed this when we were looking at the floor model of the Cobalt and when I mentioned it to bubba, he noticed it too. The area where the gages are at, the whole design is almost like a retro design. The first thing that came to my mind was how the classic Mustang's gages look since my Mustang was quite similar (yeah, yeah, I know, two different companies but still). I only have 3 gages: speedometer, fuel, and rpm. I don't have a gage to tell me how the temp of the car is, instead, its digital. And in that digital area, you hit a button to bring up certain features. One of them is for the oil. It gives you a % (of course the best being 100). As the % drops, it means its soon time for an oil change and it determines the viscosity of the oil. Once you get the oil changed, you hit the button to clear it and it should go back to 100.

And get this shit, the battery in the Cobalt isn't under the hood but IN THE TRUNK! How freaky.

It felt so weird on driving a stick again. My brain was still stuck on automatic mode that once I was already in 5th gear, I was still waiting for the car to shift on its own. Same goes with braking, if you never driven a stick, you might not understand what I mean when it comes to braking between a stick and an automatic.

But I'm happy with the car and we got a really good deal on the price. For those that also don't know when it comes to car buying, a stick is cheaper than an automatic, so that helps on bringing the price down.

GAH! Enough about the gibberish, if you read all of that, you all deserve a cookie! (and I just baked some the other day too :p)

Accidents are scary. And when you're the driver in them, it's even worse. Did you notice that time slowed down as you saw you were going to be hit?

I've never bothered with getting checked by a doctor after an accident either, but if your seat broke, then yeah, I would say you probably were looking to get whiplash whether you wanted to or not. Worse I've ever had was a concussion, and even then I didn't go to a doctor. I was just kind of bemused that I realized I was in a concussion and just didn't give a damn.

So your new car is the same color (or pretty close to the same color as your old car). If you don't have trouble sitting in the cobalt, it means I could probably never get one since my legs are long and most times I have to push the seat as far back as it can go in smaller cars.

I'm glad that you are okay (for the most part). Do you feel creeped out by driving? It took me a good week not to get so nervous behind the wheel. I miss driving stickshifts. It's funny because once you drive them again you find yourself trying to change gears when you are back in an automatic again.

Thanks for the cookie! *nibbles*

Not so much of time slowing down, it just happened so fast, I knew that I was going to get hit no matter how much I tried to avoid hitting the bitch in front of me. I barely had time to look in my rear view mirror to see when the impact was going to hit cause I was focused on the twat ahead.

Since I was down shifting during the impact, it jerked my right arm and really fucked with the muscles from my shoulder blade, the whole way down to the back of my elbow. I could barely get my arm to stretch out without it feel like something was pulling. It was fine on the left side. Anna worked what she could of those stubborn areas regardless if it hurt or not (its bound to hurt anyways when you have something that deep to work with) and really helped to loosen that pulling sensation. I think if that area gets worked on a little bit more and do the right stretches, it should be fine.

Egads! I can't imagine what it would feel like sustaining a concussion in any kind of accident. So what does it feel like? Dizziness and a bit off kilter?

Oh yes, the new car is the same color as the Cav, bubba wouldn't have it any other way. He liked that color so much that when he bought his Toyota pick-up, he had his friend re-paint it. His truck used to be a dark green.

Now in the Cav, bubba had to put the seat the whole way back in order for it to be comfortable to reach the peddles. But in the Cobalt, he doesn't even have it back the whole way. He tried to see how it felt and he could barely reach the peddles, which was odd. By looking on the inside, you wouldn't think that car would have that much room.

At first I was a little paranoid on driving especially when someone would pull in front of me quick or when someone brakes suddenly in front of me. I got over that when I was in the rental but the feeling came back again when I got the new car. I know bubba gets a bit paranoid to this day when he's trying to change lanes and I'm trying to think if that came from the accident we were in right after his mom's funeral. Some guy in a big ass pick up truck was on his cell phone and didn't see us in the lane next to him and he went to change lanes. Ended up hitting the driver's side of the door where the hinge is. The dude fucked his truck up more by jerking back into his lane and flipped.

I know in the rental, I was so used to the stick shift that during the times I would rest my hand on the automatic shifter, I felt compelled to change gears in it till I realized just what kind I was driving. Then in the new car, I was in the mental state of driving an automatic that it almost took me a bit to realize I had to either push the clutch in or downshift if I had to brake.

See, I can tell bubba that I didn't eat all those cookies I made, I offered them to friends online *laughs*.

Well when I had the concussion, I just felt a little disconnected from things. I wasn't dizzy. I had a slight headache, but I recall spending lots of time standing in front of the mirror with a flashlight looking at how one pupil would reach to light and the other wouldn't. I just kept saying, "Cool!" It was almost like being stoned but not. ^___^

So the Cobalt is roomy? I may have to try and rent one next time I need a rental car.

Glad you're okay. Car accidents scare me so much, and I'm just so glad I was only ever a passenger in them.

Scariest thing on earth? Getting hit hard from the side rear with your baby in the back.

And yeah - I didn't feel whiplash the one time I had it, until about a day or two later. So odd...

Glad you're okay. Car accidents scare me so much, and I'm just so glad I was only ever a passenger in them.

Thanx.

Yeah, accidents scare me regardless if I'm the driver or passenger. Just not a good feeling especially if you think you'll be hurt in the process.

Scariest thing on earth? Getting hit hard from the side rear with your baby in the back.

Oh god! I can only imagine the feeling. That would give me a fucking heart attack right then and there.

And yeah - I didn't feel whiplash the one time I had it, until about a day or two later. So odd...

Your lucky then. I think mine might have hit me quicker cause of the force of the impact. Hell, if it was enough to break my seat, I was bound to be sore in no time flat.

Accidents are scary - especially when you're the driver. Glad you're okay (whiplash aside). You're new car looks awesome thouigh! I love the color. And stick shifts are the only kind of car to buy. *nodnod*

oh, and Danny Phantom LOVE!

I'm so thankful that the whiplash and stiff muscles on my right side was all that I experienced. I don't blame ppl if some go through the trama that they get scared of even driving again.

You're new car looks awesome thouigh! I love the color. And stick shifts are the only kind of car to buy. *nodnod*

Thanx! It's taking a bit to get used to but its such a neat little car. And never in my life have I ever thought I'd come to loving driving sticks. Hubby taught me cause I really didn't have a choice in the matter.

Awhile back, at this place I was getting my hair done at, I was parked in a spot I guess some workers were working around and I had to move my car. Since she was in the process of messing with my hair when the guy came in and asked, I had him move it for me. When he came back in to give me my keys, he was like "I hope you don't mind me saying this but I think its hot when girl's drive a stick shift." (followed by him feeling as if he had to explain himself that he had a girlfriend so I guess I wouldn't get the wrong idea). *lol* I then got to thinking about what he said and I find it to be true. Just something about seeing someone drive a stick is almost a turn on.

oh, and Danny Phantom LOVE!

Of course! I was bound to fall for DP since I love the Fairly Oddparents. Plus Danny and Sam are so woobie as well as him being that typical clueless teenage boy.

We're just glad you're ok!!!!!!

And you KNOW why I asked if you'd gone to the Dr!! ~_^

I will work more on you and then Monday you'll get more work too. You'll be good as new soon!!

*HUGGLES*

WUF YOU!!!!!!!

Re: *HUGGLES*

And you KNOW why I asked if you'd gone to the Dr!! ~_^

Don't worry, you're the only exception for asking since you were the first person I told. It's the ppl from work and those that bubba knows that he told that always brought that up about the dr.'s.

I can't wait till that feeling goes away with the pulling. There's still a little there but thank god, not quite as bad as before.

*hugs* I'm happy your okay! And congrats on the new car- even though you had to get it under bad circumstances.

Thanx a bunch chickie! *big hugs*

I know that hubby wanted a new vehicle eventually but I didn't expect it to be this soon. *lol* And I'm thankful that I only suffered minor soreness with my body.

From: [identity profile] scarbie.livejournal.com

Oh man, Beck! *huggles* I'm so glad that you're okay (aside from the aches)!

It's something how a car might not look really messed up but the price to repair it is more than it's worth. That's how it was with my sister's car. You could barely see any damage but they totaled it.

Your new car is very cute. They couldn't match it up any better to your old car. Even though it's smaller in body it's great that you don't have to move your seat so far up to reach!

You know how to drive a stick shift!? My mom will just love you. I want to start learning how to drive one of those because like you said they're cheaper and I need all the help I can get. *lol*

It's a good thing you have a massage therapist living with you to help work out those kinks. I hope you're feeling better now.

From: [identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com

Thanx chickie. It fucking sucked!

It's something how a car might not look really messed up but the price to repair it is more than it's worth. That's how it was with my sister's car. You could barely see any damage but they totaled it.

So true. Your sis's car was the one that had that tire problem wasn't it? At least both insurance companies agreed on totaling it instead of it only being one-sided and then fuck us over on it.

I kinda miss the Cav only cause I guess it seemed a bit more sporty but having a new car feels nice, yet weird. And just everything about it seems more smoother.

You know how to drive a stick shift!?

OMG! The story that goes with it on how I learned is pretty funny. Now back home, my dad's truck was a stick and one time mom tried to teach me on the road to our house. That didn't go very well cause I kept grinding and revving it up before shifting. So she's yelling at me and it just made it worse when you have someone doing that to you. Needless to say, I didn't learn anymore after that.

Bubba was the one that taught me and I had to LEARN that night when we went on vacation together. (we were dating at the time & in the army and he was going to go to PA with me for a day and then he and his nephew were going to drive to NY to see his sis). That night when we headed out and got gas, he's like "okay, you take over from here." And I'm like O____________O;;;;; but since he had a Chevy S-10, it wasn't so bad cause it was a small truck. I drove a little bit till he took over. He drove most of the way till we got to Virgina and he wanted me to drive while he could get some sleep. It wasn't so bad then since I didn't have to shift so much.

My mom will just love you.

*laughs*

I want to start learning how to drive one of those because like you said they're cheaper and I need all the help I can get. *lol*

You can get pretty nervous on trying it especially when you have it in your head that you'll stall it or grind the gears, or just do something wrong. But once you get the feel on when you are supposed to shift and how to let out the clutch, its like you were born with the knowledge of driving one. I can't stand driving automatics anymore.

It's a good thing you have a massage therapist living with you to help work out those kinks. I hope you're feeling better now.

Without a doubt. Though it sucked that whole week when my whiplash was bothering me, she was gone a whole week and by the time she came home, it wasn't quite so bad. Now the area with my muscle in my shoulder and arm that's been bothering me is still kinda there. We've been stretching it and massaging it and hopefully with two more sessions, we can knock this problem out. And it sucks too cause I rely on my right side alot.

From: [identity profile] scarbie.livejournal.com

Yeah, my sis had the problem with the tires and the frame of her car. I'm glad that the insurance company didn't screw you over.

I kinda miss the Cav only cause I guess it seemed a bit more sporty but having a new car feels nice, yet weird. And just everything about it seems more smoother.

It'll take you a little while to get used to the feel of the car but soon you'll know the ends and outs of it. It's a shame because you were so comfortable with your old car.

Yeah, yelling isn't very helpful when it comes to learning how to do something. I can understand that turning you off.

That night when we headed out and got gas, he's like "okay, you take over from here." And I'm like O____________O;;;;;

*LOL!* I know you were!! But wow, that's some way to learn! You pretty much had no choice!

You can get pretty nervous on trying it especially when you have it in your head that you'll stall it or grind the gears, or just do something wrong.

Yeah! With practice hopefully it'll come to me. That's really something that you don't even like automatics anymore.

I hope that your shoulder and arm feel better after the two sessions. You really don't realize how much you depend on certain things until you injure them.
