Accidents are scary. And when you're the driver in them, it's even worse. Did you notice that time slowed down as you saw you were going to be hit?
I've never bothered with getting checked by a doctor after an accident either, but if your seat broke, then yeah, I would say you probably were looking to get whiplash whether you wanted to or not. Worse I've ever had was a concussion, and even then I didn't go to a doctor. I was just kind of bemused that I realized I was in a concussion and just didn't give a damn.
So your new car is the same color (or pretty close to the same color as your old car). If you don't have trouble sitting in the cobalt, it means I could probably never get one since my legs are long and most times I have to push the seat as far back as it can go in smaller cars.
I'm glad that you are okay (for the most part). Do you feel creeped out by driving? It took me a good week not to get so nervous behind the wheel. I miss driving stickshifts. It's funny because once you drive them again you find yourself trying to change gears when you are back in an automatic again.
